The Air Chapel Community Learning Center

“Scars 2 Stars”

Scholarship Program

It is the belief and conviction of the Air Chapel Directors and volunteer that troubled youth and those released from incarceration have a much greater opportunity to succeed in society and avoid crime if they are able to take ownership of a career that will enable them to be self supporting.  With this premise in mind, through our local fund raising efforts, we plan to fund a minimum of two scholarships per year of up to $2,500.  These funds will be distributed directly to a college, trade, technical or vocational school of the recipient’s choice. Those eligible for scholarships will be as follows:

  1. Boot Camp graduates will be given first consideration.
  2. Other youth with needs related to the criminal justice system, i.e. adjudicated or pre-adjudicated youth, incarcerated parents, and the like.  The decision rests solely at the discretion of the Air Chapel Board of Directors.
  3. Both girls and boys will be eligible for consideration.

To qualify for these funds the applicant must meet the following requirements:

(a) Must be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D.*

(b) Apply to the Air Chapel for scholarship award.**

(c) Will be required to submit paperwork as required by the chosen school.

(d) Continue to meet the attendance requirements and all other rules of the school chosen.

Once the scholarship has been approved by the Air Chapel Board of Directors, and the application has been approved by the school of choice, the funds will be transferred directly to the school.

Note:  No funds will go directly to the recipient of the scholarship.

Any matching funds received by the Air Chapel will be used to increase the number of scholarships awarded.***  As a candidate is being considered, the name may be submitted to a potential sponsor/ partner for matching fund possibilities.

 *     The Air Chapel will consider providing G.E.D. funding, if needed.

**   The Selection Committee will require a letter (essay) from each applicant,

stating their desire and aspiration to secure an education to establish their

future.  A telephone, letter, or personal visit with a parent or guardian will

                  be required.

*** Each applicant is required to apply for a “Pell Grant” with their school of

choice by submitting a FAFSA application.  This application is provided by

the school or is available “online”.
